PRETTY PETOSKEY, MICHIGAN

If you want to get away from the rat race, try a visit to Petoskey (http://www.petoskey.com).  Last weekend, when I was there, the weather was perfect. This photograph of Little Traverse Bay was taken from a table at the Palette Bistro restaurant (http://palettebistropetoskey.com).

After lunch, we explored the Petoskey Marina and walked out on the pier.

Some young people were diving off the end of the pier, but I decided to skip that activity. Apparently, this bear was not afraid to jump:

Later we stopped by the Little Traverse History Museum (http://www.petoskeymuseum.org), which was well worth the small admission. In addition to perusing the fine collection of Hemingway photographs and books, I learned about the history of the Petoskey area.

And, of course, there was shopping.  One of my favorite stores is Cutler’s (http://www.cutlersonline.com), a store devoted to unique kitchen items and gifts.

It all made me want to just sail away.
